Solutions for Stress in the Workplace

Stress in the workplace has existed forever, but has continually been on the rise. Most of the increase in stress is due to higher workloads and the increasing difficulty in finding work-life balance.

The world has changed a lot in recent decades and Millennials are reporting that they are feeling more stress than their baby-boomer counterparts, and the stress they are feeling is making them less productive at work.

Check in with your employees and note whether they are feeling overwhelmed, challenged the right amount, or not enough.

Being that people spend so many hours a week at work, modern workplaces should make it a priority to promote healthy and realistic workloads and challenges, while also maintaining a sense of enjoyment.

  • Maybe it’s time for a new incentive, employee recognition or engagement program. Revamping what you already have going or starting new can really give the needed jump-start to anyone feeling burnt out at work.
  • If possible, offer more flex time, including the option to work from home for one day a week or the ability adjust start and end times. Giving this flexibility can really take the edge off for someone struggling to find work-life balance.
  • Maybe it’s time to upgrade or refresh your space. Getting rid of old or tired-looking décor, materials, and anything that in our current Marie Kondo-era does not “spark joy,” can do wonders. Give any heavily used community space (including that smelly kitchen fridge) a deep cleaning. Bring in some fresh flowers or plants to spruce up the space.
  • Bring in a monthly or weekly massage chair that employees can sign up for. Promote your wellness program or offer to pay a percentage of a gym membership or workout class pass. Staying active helps reduce stress.

Doing any number of these things let’s your employees know you care about their well-being, and this can dramatically boost satisfaction and retention, among other things. Keeping your employees engaged and motivated, but not entirely stressed and overwhelmed is the key to boosting your business. To learn more about how you can get serious about employee well-being, contact Marketing Innovators today.
